Gloria Mildred DeHaven was an American actress and singer. She was born on July 23, 1925, in Los Angeles, California. Her father, Carter, was an actor, and her mother, Flora, was an actress. DeHaven had a brother named Carter jr. who died in 1979. DeHaven was a student at the Ken-Mar Professional school in Hollywood.
CAREER
DeHaven made her acting debut in Charlie Chaplin’s 1936 comedy film, Modern Times. She was later signed to MGM as a contract star. She appeared in such films as Best Foot Forward (1943) with Lucille Ball, Summer Stock (1950) with Judy Garland, and Three Little Words (1950) with Fred Astaire. She starred opposite Jack Lemmon in the 1997 romantic comedy, Out to Sea.
Dehaven was cast as ‘Bess Shelby’ in the ABC soap opera, Ryan’s Hope. She appeared in a number of other television series including As the World Turns, and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. She was featured on The Alan Young Show (1951) and The George Gobel Show (1956). Her stage credits include The Unsinkable Molly Brown (1963), Golden Boy (1968), and No, No, Nanette (1983). As a singer, Dehaven is known for her musical numbers and singing talents in films. She’s performed live with the likes of Jan Savitt and Bob Crosby. Dehaven’s star was added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.

DeHaven was married four times. Her first husband was film actor John Payne (1944-50), and her second was real estate developer Martin Kimmel (1953-54). She was married to car dealer Richard Fincher twice, from 1957-63 and 1965-69. DeHaven is survived by her four children, Kathleen, Thomas, Harry, and Faith.
