Field Notes are a type of item that was introduced with the Bozjan Southern Front and gives you field records when used. These records provide information on notable characters involved in the “Save the Queen: Blades of Gunnhildr” storyline.
To view the field records, you must first use the field note item in your inventory. Then, open up your menu and go to the Collections section.
Field notes can also be obtained from Zadnor, the second area that is unlocked when progressing through the “Save the Queen” quest line.
Obtaining Field Notes
By engaging in battle on the Bozjan Southern Front, you have a chance at obtaining Field Notes.
There are different ways of doing this, but since there are specific field notes that can only be obtained through a certain method, you’ll be doing all of them if you want your records to be complete.
Skirmishes
These are random battles that occur in the Bozja map and are very similar to FATEs that are found throughout the rest of FFXIV.
Just like FATEs, anyone in the zone can participate in Skirmishes and are rewarded based on their contributions.
Critical Engagements
Critical Engagements are also random encounters within the Bozjan Southern Front but are slightly different from Skirmishes.
The most obvious difference would be that these battles are much more difficult. They are more akin to the Trials you can find in the Duty Finder.
Next would be the number of participants in a Critical Engagement. While it is also open to anyone in the zone, only a set number of players may participate.
The maximum number of players that can join will differ with each Critical Engagement.
Duels
Duels are similar to Critical Engagements but are 1v1 battles between you and an opponent. They are triggered after completing certain Critical Engagements.
To qualify for a Duel, you must participate in the Critical Engagement that triggers it without dying or getting hit by any of the AoE attacks. Getting disconnected during the engagement will also disqualify you from a Duel.
If multiple players qualify and accept a Duel, only 1 will be chosen at random to engage the enemy. Players that are not selected will gain Notoriety, which will increase your odds of being chosen the next time you qualify for a Duel.
Your Notoriety will reset after you have been chosen for a Duel.
Castrum Lacus Litore and The Dalriada
These are special Critical Engagements that take you to instanced areas and function much like Alliance Raids. However, a maximum of 48 players may enter and party compositions will not be restricted to the usual setups.
To qualify for Castrum Lacus Litore, you must reach a Resistance Rank of 10 and complete the quest “The Lady of Blades”. To qualify for the Dalriada, you need to reach Resistance Rank 25 and complete the quest “A New Playing Field”.
Castrum Lacus Litore occurs in the Bozjan Southern Front while the Dalriada occurs in Zadnor.
Delubrum Reginae
As another instanced area, Delubrum Reginae is also similar to an Alliance Raid.
Like Castrum Lacus Litore and The Dalriada, party compositions are not restricted to any particular format, but the maximum number of players allowed inside is 24 instead of 48.
To access Delubrum Reginae, you’ll need to complete the side quest “Fit for a Queen” from Bajsaljen in Gangos (X:6.5, Y:5.8). Once you are done with the quest, you can queue up for the instance by speaking with Sjeros in Gangos (X:5.5, Y:5.4).
What To Do With Duplicate Field Notes
As you spend more time in the Bozjan Southern Front and Zadnor, you’ll definitely come across duplicate Field Notes. These can be exchanged for lockboxes at the Resistance Historian NPC present in both areas.
The Resistance Historian can be found at Utya’s Aegis (X:15.1, Y:29.2) in the Bozjan Southern Front and at Camp Vrdelnis (X:34.6, Y:34.9) in Zadnor.
Lockboxes are items that can be opened by the Locksmith NPCs found in both zones. You’ll find a variety of different items inside these boxes including glamour items, chocobo bardings, minions, and even the Gabriel α mount.
The Resistance Locksmiths can be found at:
- Utya’s Aegis (X:15.2, Y:29.8) in Bozja, and
- The Southern Plateau (X:34.9, Y:34.3) in Zadnor
