Maui police made seven arrests for operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant and towed seven vehicles from Friday through the Labor Day holiday weekend that ended Monday.
Two of the arrests over the weekend were for habitually operating a vehicle under the influence, police said in a news release Wednesday. The department conducted five separate intoxication checkpoints and reported no alcohol or drug-impaired driving fatalities.
As of Wednesday, police have made 361 arrests for operating a vehicle under the influence, with 15 for habitually operating a vehicle under the influence, for a total of 376 year-to-date arrests, compared to 400 at the same time last year, a 6 percent decrease.
“The Maui Police Department does not tolerate impaired driving,” the news release said. “If you are caught driving impaired, you will be arrested.
“If you are out on the roads and you see someone suspected of driving impaired, please call the Maui Police Department and report it.”
