Did you accidentally kill your companion Kelvin or Virginia? Don't worry. Here's how you can easily bring them back to life in Sons of the Forest!
First Published March 4, 2023, 13:46
As you may know, Kelvin and Virginia are important companions in Sons of the Forest who can assist you with your survival. They can help you gather resources, defend against mutants and even build shelters. However, as with any companion, they are not invincible and can be killed by mutants, wild animals, or even by your own hand if you aren't careful.
That said, losing a companion can be a devastating blow. But fear not because we have a workaround to bring Kelvin and Virginia back to life in Sons of the Forest. We should note that there is no official way to revive them in the game, but with some effort and patience, you can get them back by following the steps we have outlined in this guide.
How To Revive Kelvin & Virginia In Sons Of The Forest
Before we begin, we want to credit and extend a special thank you to YouTuber MyUsualMe for this workaround. It's important to note that the steps outlined in this guide apply to both Single Player and Multiplayer modes in Sons of the Forest and can be used to bring Kelvin and Virginia back if they are killed or lost in the game. However, it will only work if you have a Save file from when the companions were still alive!
- Ensure Sons of the Forest is completely shut down.
- Open the Run terminal by pressing Windows+R. Then type 'appdata' and press Enter.
- Navigate to the following file directory: LocalLow/Endnight/SonsOfTheForest/Saves/[SteamID]/[Single/Multiplayer]/
- Open the latest folder (you can sort by Date Modified) and open the GameStateSaveData.json in any text editor like Notepad.
- Look for the strings 'IsRobbyDead' or 'IsVirginiaDead' and replace the value 'true' with 'false'
- Save and close the file.
- Open SaveData.json (located in the same folder) in any text editor and then press Ctrl+F to bring up the Search window.
- Search for the following value for Kelvin: \"TypeId\":9 (write it exactly as indicated in bold)
- Search for the following value for Virginia: \"TypeId\":10
- Look for the following strings and modify them accordingly:
- "\state\":6 --> change the value 6 to 2
- "\Health\":0 (or a number very close to zero) --> change the value to 100.0
- Save the file.
- Search for the following value for Kelvin: \"TypeId\":9,\"PlayerKilled\":1 --> change the value 1 to 0. (you can do the same for Virginia by replacing 9 with 10 in the search box). -- THIS STEP IS CRITICAL!
- Save and close the file.
- Restart the game and load up the latest Save file. Voila! Your companion has returned to the land of the living!
Note: If any of the code is missing, you can try to insert the code manually into the Save file; however, we suggest keeping a backup of the original Save file before trying to do this. Also, if you've lost your companions, you can also modify the XYZ coordinates to spawn them near you. Simply modify the \"x\":[x-coordinates],\"y\":[y-coordinates],\"z\":[z-coordinates] string next to the \"TypeId\":[9 or 10] field.
And that's everything you need to know about reviving Kelvin or Virginia in Sons of the Forest. Losing a companion can be a tough setback, but with our workaround, you can bring them back to life and continue your journey with them.
